PUMA Terminates Contract With Nigeria’s Athletics Federation After Video of Athlete Washing Kits Goes Viral

Kit manufacturing company, PUMA has terminated its sponsoring and licensing agreement with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria with immediate effect.

This comes a day after a video of Nigeria’s Shot Putter, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, washing his only kit at the Olympics in Tokyo after qualifying for the Mens’ Shot Put final went viral.

According to rumours, PUMA has already provided all kits necessary for the Nigerian Federation and also paid their $2.5m money.

The statement read;

As a direct consequence of the recent developments, particularly at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020, and persuant to Clauses 9.2 and 7.3 of the Agreement, we hereby terminate the Agreement with immediate effect.
