Popular Ghanaian blogger and entertainment critic, Kobby Kyei has revealed that the definition provided by the Academy and Board of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for the Artiste of the Decade category is not strong and clear enough.
According to the Academy, The Artiste of the Decade is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity over the last decade. The Artiste(s) must have released a hit single/album within the last 10 years.
This definition according to the father of one on the Big X show on Radio Univers 105.7fm is not enough to adjudge the Artiste of the Decade. Kobby Kyei mentioned to host, Kwesi Live that consistency is very key when it comes to selecting artistes for such awards.
I have a problem with the definition provided for this category. I believe consistency within the years stipulated must be very important. I wish it would be changed before the award will be given tonight.
Quizzed on who he will choose as the Artiste of the Decade from 2009 to 2019, he did not hesitate to mention rapper Sarkodie. According to him, the King of Sark Nation has been the most consistent and most influential artiste in the years under review. Sarkodie who has won an unprecedented 21 awards in the last ten years with multiple nominations has been tipped by many to walk away with this prestigious prize.
I think it would be daylight robbery to give the award to any other than Sarkodie. He has been the most consistent for the past ten years and no one comes close to him in this category. I recently heard Samini and Shatta Wale talking about it but I still believe Sarkodie stands tall.
